My Farmers Market Debut

2015-07-028

Dear sisters,

Accomplished. Relieved. Satisfied. Useful. Happy. Tickled. Motivated. Inspired. Fulfilled. Refreshed. Relieved. Just a few words ( OK, more than a few) to describe how I felt AFTER our debut at the Farmers Market Last Week. Why was I so darned nervous anyway? Continue reading

  1. Barb P says:

Thank you for this post! Parts of Oregon are having a rough time with heat and forest fires right now and this post is like a breath of fresh air. Thank you!!!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Barb, I’ve been reading about the wild fires out west ( I remember them well.I’m a native Nevadan ). This is always a tough time of year for fires and all that smoke in the air with the high temps can leave you feeling parched for sure. Thanks so much for reading and for your note! I hope things settle down out your way soon.
      Deb

  2. Deb,

There is so much to learn in this business of flower farming isn’t there? And I love the lesson you shared about the little girls. That is just so special. I think somedays I’ve learned so much in the flower garden. Patience, being the biggest lesson these days! 🙂

Love your flowers and your style.

Hugs from your flower farmer friend!

    – Dori, the Ranch Farmgirl –

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Dori,
You got that right, sister! I’m so enjoying this new journey and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. One of the best parts so far is the time my daughter and I are having together and having you to “talk flowers ” with!
Love YOUR flowers and style too!
      Keep blooming!
      Deb

  3. Raynita says:

So happy for you, Deb! The thought of that young girl picking out flowers for herself made me tear up. Can’t explain it but I’m pretty sure you get it. Thanks for sharing that.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Raynita!
I DO get it… I was also so touched by her quiet but obviously very wise spirit. A friend of mine asked if I got a picture of her with the flowers but I was so caught up in the moment I didn’t even think about it. It’s a memory I will never forget. Hope your summer’s going great at the Lee Lodge! Hugs,
      Deb

      • Raynita says:

We are having a great summer. I think when we are too caught up in a moment to remember to take a picture, then we are truly living in the moment. Good for you. That’s why we are blessed with memories. The true kind.

  4. Colette says:

I love your sink display. I sell honey products at a local market and I am always trying to cute up my booth. I have a lovely table my father made for me for old barn wood for the honey I sell, but this year I started selling soap, scrubs, etc and am still trying to find the perfect display for that. I also love your logo!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Thank you so much, Colette. Now you’ve got me brainstorming on YOUR display! Ha! I’m sure you come up with something only a clever farmgirl could think of!
Good luck with your Farm Season!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  5. Bonnie ellis says:

I’m so proud of you! The flowers and the arrangements are gorgeous, no to mention the three sellers. Congrats farmgirl’s!

  6. Laura R. says:

Congratulations !! Everything looks stunning, and such great teamwork you have. I would definitely buy a bunch or two if I was there 😉

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Thanks so much, Laura! We are having fun amongst the flowers an other venders… It’s a fun way to spend a summer day, for sure!
      Thanks for reading,
      Deb

  7. Joan says:

Oh, Deb, it was so much fun at your market booth this morning. Saturday is my day for picking up flowers. I’ll have the one on the front row, in the picture of your sweet Mom and Nicolette, yupper that one right there with the purple Dahlia, oh shoot anyone of them is so special. Love everything about your display, of course the sink takes my heart. I don’t have many to pick this year, the hail storms were prolific so it is off to market I go.
Thanks for sharing your fun, lovely, spectacular flowers. God bless.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Joan!
How I wish I could look up and see you coming my way to say hello and enjoy the blooms on market day! Blessings to you and yours my dear…
      Stay cool!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  8. Denise says:

So happy for you Deb. Your flowers look stunning. I love the combinations. Great soul lifter 🙂

  9. Deb Bosworth says:

Thank you so much, Denise… They sure do lift the spirits don’t they.
    Deb

  10. Vivian Monroe says:

Yay! How fun! That was always my favorite part of the farmers mkt, was visiting and getting to know the other local vendors. I do miss it. I am so glad you are doing well with your flowers. I knew you would. They are just beautiful. God BLess you friend. Neta

  11. Nicole Christensen says:

    Hi Deb!

Love the bouquets! How fun! Your daughter and mom are such pretty ladies! Oh, and your tags are beautiful!

    Farmgirl Hugs,
    Nicole
    Suburban Farmgirl

  12. Merrilyn says:

Deb, I always love your flowers. They make me smile and remember all the flowers my mom grew each summer in New York. Your dream just get coming to fruition more and more. You need to write a book about flowers and antiques. I would definitely look forward to reading it. Hope to visit your little shop again someday.
    Lots of Hugs
    Merrilyn

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Merrilyn!
So great to hear from you here. You know, I’ve been thinking the same thing about a book… Great minds, right? You are sweet for mentioning it.
Glad you enjoyed the flowers… Say hi to Michelle for me too! xo Deb

  13. Loved this. I used to live on Fox Island, WA and started a business called Little Fox Farm Herbs and Flowers. Before I had much of chance for success, we moved to Montana and bought a house with a postage stamp of shade for a yard. This year I planted a herb garden in a big pot filled with foam peanuts and enough soil that I can move in the sun. Perfect. In the meantime, I spent many years becoming a psychotherapist. Right about now, I miss those days amongst the herbs and flowers. Good luck on your business!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Linda,
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed and I’m happy to hear you are finding your ” roots ” again in your ” pot-filled” herb garden. GOOD for you! Thanks so much for reading.
      Happy Growing!
      Deb

  14. Sandi says:

Deb that sink is so appealing, I think I told you in your last blogpost. I’m glad you had a good time and your daughter looks just like you! Such fun! I’ll get up there someday! Sandi from across the Bay!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Susana,
Thank you! I’m happy to report that our vases went well at 10.00 each. We were thrilled with the interest and response we got. People were seen walking around with our vases throughout the day. One lady bought 4!
      Deb xo

  3. I too am in the process of a new farmgirl enterprise! We (Hubby and I) are in the planning stages of buying a farm on the Ohio River! We want to embrace the farmgirl spirit and have 2 vintage campers on the beach to rent out during the summer. My sister-in -laws and I want to open a vintage wares store in the barn also. Any advice is welcome!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Wow! I love the sounds of your farmgirl enterprise. I’m ready to pack a suitcase and head there now. I bet you’ll have fun naming your farm and shop! My little advice for you. I had someone create my logo for me and I’m so glad I did. She took my ideas and inspirations and turned it into something I’m really happy with. Best of luck to you and your family. Keep us posted!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  4. valerie jensen says:

    Deb

  5. Kristy says:

Where did “put down some roots and BLOOM” come from? I need to make a sign to put in my garden to encourage friends, myself (and possibly my plants). Naturally, I want to give credit to the inventor.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Kristy, ” Put Down Some Roots and Bloom ”
      Debbie Bosworth…Yup.. That ones mine!
Let me know when you make your sign. I’d love to see it!

  6. Laura R. says:

You are keeping the dream alive !! I am impressed with your farmgirl creativity!! You are inspiring 🙂
    xo

  7. Mary Rauch says:

Your photos are a REAL treat for the eyes. Those wooden borders on the flower beds look good and I bet they are especially great when it comes to trimming?

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Mary,
Yes, I love the height of my raised beds. They do make weeding, planting and cutting much easier on my back.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Glad you enjoyed 🙂
      xo Deb

  8. Sharon Elaine says:

We moved from TN back to OH last winter. The high kitchen ceilings in our new home begged a large sign of sorts. I am a chicken lover (but don’t have real ones yet) so, my kitchen decor has a chicken theme. All that to say, I made a large 48 x 28, stenciled, FARM FRESH EGGS, sign on barn wood from the 1800’s. It is weathered with some of the original faded white paint. So, I pulled out all my old tools and decided to do stenciled signs for our large flea market that is open 4 days a week. Then….I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had to delay my new enterprise. I’m doing well and ready for my project. You more than achieved your romantic farmgirl theme – love your setup. Always get inspiration from your blog. Farmgirl sister #6244

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Sharon,
I’m so glad to hear you are feeling well and ready to tackle your project. Your home sounds charming. Best of luck with your new enterprise and continued healing wishes and prayers to you.
      Hugs,
      Deb

  9. Sandi says:

Good luck Deb! What a darling set up you have for your new business! Maybe one of the markets will find me searching for you! I’d certainly make a bee line to that adorable sink!

  10. Amber~FPH says:

I love it ALL, Deb! Your story, your logo, your set up, everything! I think you are going to do great at the market and you will definitely be remembered. I, too, am in the beginning stages of a small business. I became a certified Cottage Food Processor, baking cakes and pastries from our home. It wasn’t really something I aspired to do but it just happened. My first order was a multi tiered wedding cake and once word got out, it spread! I now do a weekly “special” and everyone picks up on Friday afternoons. I’m not sure where this is going but I’ll take the ride till we get there! P.S. be prepared for people wanting to buy your props!!!!

  11. Joan says:

Thanks for the beautiful bouquets!!!! you do grow some of the best. God bless.

  12. Vivian Monroe says:

Deb everything looks GREAT and I know you will be a huge success. Just remember have fun at the market, and dont spend all your profits there, like I always did. haha. Be Blessed. Neta 🙂

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Neta,
Yes, well, we did spend a little of what we made. How can you not? Ha Ha! BBQ Sauce, goats milk soap, cookies, and raspberry rum jam plus some delicious veggies came home with us yesterday. 🙂 Blessings to you too, Neta dear!

  13. Karen says:

Loved reading about all your new ventures and adventures. You’re always up to something fun

  14. Denise Ross says:

We’ll done to you Deb. I love your gardens. I hope your flowers stall goes well 🙂

  15. Dirtduchess says:

What a delightful read. Makes me want to go out to my raised gardens and do something. Alas, most of our growing season is over as 100+* temps invade my territory.

  16. Love this and it looks like you got one of Donna’s stencils. So excited for you and it sounds like your having a blast.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Carole! We are having so much fun. I actually picked up that little tool box at The Vintage Bazaar already painted and stenciled for me. 🙂
Thanks for coming by the Beach farmgirl Blog! Happy Summer… Hope you are staying cool in Texas.
      Deb

  17. Liz says:

So lucky I ran across your blog! I am just putting my plan together for a fresh cut flower garden for next year. I figured I already grow most of the cut flowers for myself, why not expand and sell. Your flowers are so beautiful. And I love the design of your business cards! What a clever idea for a display!! Good luck in your new adventure! I look forward to following you in your journey!

  4. Laura R. says:

Thanks for sharing !! Great pix and great design. Maybe you could draw up your chicken coop plans and have them available to download for a nominal fee ? Sounds like all your experience would be appreciated by newcomers to chicken keeping! 🙂

      Hi Laura,
Now that’s an idea we’ve thought of but just haven’t had the time to get r’ done! Great minds, right? Thanks for stopping by today 🙂

It’s all so picture perfect! I grew up with chickens and had some 12 years ago but life and moves get in the way. Pray to have a sweet coop again in the near future. Love the yard, garden shed and of the hen house of course!! Lucky all of you! Best wishes for a wonderful year.

      Hugs,
      Deb

  6. Dori Troutman says:

    Hi Deb,

What a great job they did on the hen house! 🙂 We get a lot of enquiries on our flower cart and recently I asked my son-in-law (who built it) if it was hard seeing it copied and he said, “No. It is the best compliment that so many people want to copy it.” I really liked that! So, you can consider it a huge compliment that so many folks want to copy your hen house… I sure want to!!! We are actually in the beginning stages of designing ours and I keep having my husband look at yours! 🙂

This was a great post and I loved looking at Donna’s blog. Isn’t it a great day when you meet new friends?!

    Hugs,

    Dori

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Dori!
I agree… I think it’s fun when others are inspired enough by ” someone” or ” something” that gets them moving in a creative and positive direction. To me, that’s what makes this amazingly creative world go ’round!
Hey, ever since I saw your flower stand I’ve been on the lookout of my very own rusty red and yellow truck bed…Everything about yours is perfect and in my colors too! 🙂 Your flower stand is how we met!
It’s always a great day when we meet new friends!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  7. Margie Myatt says:

    Great post Deb!

  8. Nicole Christensen says:

    Deb,

I love both your hen house AND your potting shed! Beautiful! What an inspiration.

    Nicole (Suburban Farmgirl)

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Nicole,
Thanks my dear! The potting shed is Donna’s but hers has inspired me for when I build mine.
      Hugs,
      Deb

  9. Rowena Philbeck says:

Love the hen house…so very cute and the garden is lovely. Thanks for showing us.

  10. Donna says:

Thank you Deb for sharing you idea, measurements and all the details of your hen house. I loved yours and now mine too. What a wonderful post from you. I enjoyed it so much. I made the strawberry rhubarb jelly and have a jar for you. Thought I would have it when you came by, but time really flew by. I’ll bet you gardens are looking wonderful about now. I was thinking how there was nothing there when we came by and how we looked at your seeds. Why does summer go so quickly?
Thank you again for your kindness and down home farm girl friendship!

  11. Donna says:

I think my RRRRRRRR is broke too many yous instead of your!

Sweet Strawberry- Rhubarb Pie

2015-05-042

Dear Sisters,

Are you a fan of Rhubarb? This tart but tasty herbaceous perennial is a vegetable generally used for making pies, sauces, jams and chutney. Today I’m sharing and easy Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie recipe. It just happens to be my husbands favorite dessert in the whole wide world and a family favorite too. All I have to do is mention the word Rhubarb and someone will say, “did I hear pie?” Continue reading

  1. Adrienne says:

Your pie sounds delicious! I remember my first baking disaster. I decided to make something simple like sugar cookies. Newly married at 18, I though I would put a few cookies into my husband’s lunch bag. Well, baking soda is not the same as baking powder. You guessed it: I had a cookie sheet-sized “cookie” about 3/4″ high. It was embarrassing but not as humiliating as finding out my husband took a large chunk in his lunch and showed his co-workers the “cookie” his bride had baked for him. After laughing, they all took a piece and admitted it tasted pretty good. Lesson learned.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Howdy, Adrienne!
Cute story. I guess looks aren’t everything, right?
Tee He…Thanks for the note…xo Deb

  2. Joan says:

Thanks for the great posting. We love rhubarb combined with other fruits too. I have never heard of small pearl Tapioca, thanks for the heads up on that – going to the market today so will look for the right one – your pie made me salivate – so must make one. God bless.

  3. Gentle Joy says:

This sounds wonderful… what a great spring/early summer pie. 🙂

  4. Sharon Elaine says:

Just plain ol’ rhubarb pie for me – no strawberries. My father-in-law use to say, “you ran out of sugar huh? Love the tartness. In PA as a child we pulled and ate it right from the garden – makes me pucker and shiver to think about it.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Sharon,
” In PA as a child we pulled and ate it right from the garden – makes me pucker and shiver to think about it.” ME TOO! 🙂
Thanks for the note today. xo Deb

  5. Brenda Towsley says:

Hi there! We have a lot of Rhubarb ourselves and I just spent the morning looking to recipes deciding what I would do with it. Going to try a couple different Rhubarb butters, one with brown sugar and one with the regular sugar. Need to make my dad in law rhubarb sauce and a strawberry rhubarb pie. I do cut up strawberries and rhubarb and freeze the amount I need for a pie together. Usually add a little more than my recipe calls for and have to drain some of the extra liquids off but the pie is still yummy in the middle of winter when you don’t have the fresh stuff available.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Brenda! Great to hear from you. You know, I’ll have to try draining off the liquid as you suggested for mid-winter pie. Rhubarb sauce is so yummy on homemade waffles and pancakes. You are making me hungry for more delicious rhubarb. Thanks for stopping by, Brenda! Deb

  6. Dori Troutman says:

Deb, that Rhubarb looks amazing. I’ve never tried growing it… is there any reason it wouldn’t grow here in Tennessee? Is it too hot maybe??? When we used to visit my husband’s family in Alaska this time every summer my sister in law had Rhubarb growing like you wouldn’t believe. I used to pick a huge bag full the night before we left and bring it home in my suitcase! 🙂 It was beautiful red just like yours.

I’m not sure (going to have to remember to ask my sister in law) but I think I remember that the leaves are poisonous and so they had a huge moose problem in their yard… the moose was so good that it wouldn’t touch the leaves, but would “harvest” all the Rhubarb stalks! 🙂

I do love Rhubarb-Strawberry pie. But I really love Rhubarb Strawberry jam! It’s probably my favorite.

    Thanks for sharing!

    – Dori –

P.S. LOVE the picture of you on the shoreline! 🙂

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Dori, It might take some research to see what ( if any ) variety of rhubarb will grow in a warmer climate like yours. I can just picture you stuffing all that rhubarb in your suitcase with a big old smile on your face!
Yes, the leaves are poisonous! It’s so amazing that animals know to leave them alone. My chickens did too. WE still only have the one plant… I’ve read that 4 plants will feed a family of four ( with plenty left over to preserve and freeze). Every year I say I’m gonna get more and then I get drunk on flowers again!
Thanks for popping in and let me know if you find a variety that will thrive in Tenn!
      Hugs,
      Deb

  7. Karen(old cowgirl) Montoya says:

    Hi Deb,
When I saw your post it instantly took me bake when I was a teenager (1955-1962). My Oldest Sister (16 years older) made the most delicious pie in a oblong glass pan. Of course she made her own top and bottom pie crust. Her recipe was not for strawberry’s just for Rhubarb and she used the Minute Tapioca. It was always so good. I have a hard time eating Rhubarb pies not made with tapioca. It adds that special sweetness.
Thanks for this recipe. I will use the Minute Tapioca in it and know that it will be delicious.
    Hugs
    Kay

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Karen,
What a ” sweet ” memory…Pun intended! You can’t go wrong with the Minute Tapioca for pies. Enjoy the recipe!
Thanks for reading…as always 🙂 Hugs, Deb

  8. Kathy says:

If it tastes great, it doesn’t matter how pretty it is! It sounds so good. I have not had a rhubarb pie in so very long.

  9. Ellen Ottoson says:

    Hi there,
I live in Ohio and I started out with four rhubarb plants that are thriving here. We live in the Dayton area. I’ve given away two and this seems to keep my husband and myself stocked well. I cut the cleaned stalks in one inch chunks and freeze 4 heaping cups in a freezer bag for pies, puddings, etc. later in the year. My rhubarb is Victoria with the light green center and red outside. My friends want plants when we divide the root this fall. I’ll read up to make sure that’s the time to do it! Ellen

  10. Nicole Christensen says:

Okay, Now I Want Pie. Though I have a confession too…I have never tasted rhubarb! Farmgirl hugs, Nicole

My faithful garden companion, Max and I.

Dear Sisters,

Whew doggies. Spring is such a glorious season in New England. Why, it’s enough to make a farmgirl feel born again! The weather is perfect for completing late-spring garden chores and planting some pretty, perky bedding annuals for a bold, burst of color. My daughter and I made an UN-planned trip to a new nursery today and got carried away with the beautiful blooms. Continue reading

  1. Cindy says:

Beautiful post! Enjoy your lovely garden! Your pets! And your beautiful daughter! You are blessed! Cindy

  2. Joan says:

Super post!! So far the only thing I have planted is ideas — we are in a rain, still some frosty nights, a few inches of snow pattern, so nothing will be done even this weekend. Usually we say Mother’s Day weekend is a safe time but we had 6″s that weekend and have had 5″s this week, not complaining though because it will dry up quickly once the sunny days happen. Still going to enjoy this most special time of THANK YOU to all who have stood up for our wonderful USA and for those who have been in our personal lives. God bless yall.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Joan, I had to chuckle about your planted ideas…They are the least backbreaking when it comes to gardening! Hope it dries out for you and you can get some gardening done soon.
      Hugs and blessings! xo Deb

  3. CJ Armstrong says:

I see some columbines there! That’s my very favorite flower. They grow wild in our mountains and are the Colorado State Flower. I have a few plants in my yard as well.
Lovely, lovely, lovely! I hope to get some garden work done here soon!
    CJ

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi CJ,
Columbines remind me of the mountains in the high desert. Maybe that’s why I love them too? Enjoy your gardening season. xo deb

  4. bonnie ellis says:

You and your daughter are so good looking (Oh, all right so is your dog). Living in the same type of climate as New England, I know how easy it is to get carried away at green growing things. Your choices are so beautiful. We had frost this week but now it is in the 70s. We can plant too. Happy gardening.

  5. Brenda Towsley says:

Always love seeing what you are putting in the ground. I miss having one of my daughters helping to plant my flowers. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Howdy,Brenda!
I dread the day my girls will be on her own…I wish I could freeze her 17th year here at home with us. I’m thoroughly enjoying it and her. Thanks for the visit! xo Deb

  6. Sharon Elaine says:

Just came in from planting my Tasha Tudor campanula seeds I ordered online. A friend brought me some plants from her garden (I love that), forget-me-nots, europeon ginger and blood root. I love blues and purples and found larkspur, delphinium and a balloon plant at the nursery. My perennial border looks beautiful.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Oh yum… Your garden sounds so beautiful and lush, just like Tahsa’s! Love her… She has been an inspiration to me ( and thousands of others) for years. Happy Gardening, Sharon!
      Deb

  7. Monica says:

Absolutely stunning! Loved the pink John Deere gloves and Max, such a helper. Thank you for sharing. Never know what you’ll find at a farm store, eh? LOL

Mother’s Log ~ Special Days and Celebrations

2015-03-20 09 EDIT

Eagle Scout, Zachary Bosworth

Dear sisters,

As moms, we log a lot of miles with our children. Starting from day one we manage, mark and track hundreds of important events in our children’s lives. We love, nurture, nudge and nourish. Encourage, excite, and inspire. Sometimes, we have to push, pull and prod them along when they drift off course. But that’s all part of the amazing journey of motherhood. We recently celebrated our sons Court of Honor Eagle Scout Ceremony. It was proud day for all of us and one for the Mother’s Log for sure. Please join us in honoring our young man, Zachary and his good friend and fellow Eagle Scout, Brendan! Continue reading

  1. Margo;) says:

CONGRATULATIONS! To the entire Eagle Scout Family! We have 4 here in our home. I know the joys and the work involved in Scouting. I have been a Cub Scout Leader for over 28 years now. Watching these young men grow and GROW is one of my greatest joys. I am proud FOR you! Zach and Brendan…. I am proud OF you.
    Margo;)
    Fellow Eagle Scout Mom.

  2. Bonnie ellis says:

I send my congratulations to Zachary and Brendan. I celebrate with you because our son earned his Eagle Scout. I know how proud a mom can be (family too). My son is now 44 and he told me that every job interview he had, they counted the award very highly. Bask in the glow.

  3. Linda Baker says:

Congratulations to Zach and his family!
Thank you, Deb, for sharing your special story and pictures. It was great to read about Boy Scouting and your famly’s experiences with such a great organization.

  4. Linda Baker says:

OOPS. Sorry, I left out Brendan’s name.
    Congatulations to Brendan, too!

  5. Dori Troutman says:

    Deb,

Thanks for this really awesome, informative post! My son was in 4-H all his growing up years so we didn’t do Boy Scouts. So this was all new information to me and I really enjoyed it! Your son is such a handsome boy. And I love the picture of you and daughter – she’s beautiful.

Also, what an incredible project that your son chose as his Eagle project. Wow. Loved the aerial view of your beach community. Beautiful.

    Happy Mother’s Day Deb!!!

    – Dori –

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Dori,
I’m glad you enjoyed this post, Dori! I think that’s great your son was able to participate in 4-H growing up. It’s all good stuff for growing boys!
Hope you had a fantastic Mother’s Day!!!
      Deb

  6. Laura R. says:

Congratulations !!! This is a great accomplishment. I, too, am a fellow Eagle Scout mom. My son is 21 this year and still considers his Eagle an important part of his life, so much dedication, hard work, fun, and learning ! And it is not over, as I am sure he will become a Scout leader some day. :))))

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Laura,
Congratulations to you as well. Our son has also seen how his Eagle Scout Award can help him with getting hired. He worked for Coca Cola last summer as a merchandiser and was hired on the spot because the hiring manager was impressed he was an Eagle Scout. Oh, wouldn’t that be neat if he has a son some day to be a scout leader as well? I an see that happening! xo Deb

  7. Vivian Monroe says:

Deb, this post just made me teary eyed. He is such a fine looking young man, he and his friend will go far in life with the dedication they learned in Scouts. Congratulations to them both, and I hope you have a very Blessed Mothers day. Neta

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Neta, Thank you so much. It’s been so great to celebrate with these two upright young men!Love to you! Deb x0

046-001

PORCH RULES

MAKE MEMORIES, have a drink, LAUGH, visit with old friends, MAKE NEW FRIENDS, enjoy the view, UNPLUG AND UNWIND, take your time, SIT BACK AND RELAX~

Dear Sisters,

It’s a tiny little thing with a sliver of a view, but it’s pure heaven. Come sit on my porch and catch the sea breeze. It’s spring break! Continue reading

  1. Deb,

This post makes me want to go to your cottage on the beach more than ever! I love your porch and that bed looks so cozy! 🙂 Its just darling.

So glad you took us on another tour!

    Dori

  2. Gayle says:

I enjoyed reading your spring break post this morning. I live by a beach and have been so busy with the end of school and paperwork about my house(taxes, insurance payments due, etc.) that my mind is unsettled. You reminded me about what I always say, “All you need is love.”. And I do love the beach!

  3. Nicole Christensen says:

    Hi Deb!

I love your porch! So cozy and inviting, and I could just hear the waves roll nearby. I really love the color you painted the floor. And your pup is just too darn cute!

Sitting on the porch is one of life’s best little gifts!

    Farmgirl Hugs,
    Nicole (Suburban Farmgirl)

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Nicole! Thank you so much. Were you ears burning earlier this week? Our daughter, my mom and I were in Mystic Seaport. It was our first time. Quaint area and we even got a peek at our Mayflower 11 in dry dock for repairs. She’ll sail back home to Plymouth this summer.
Hugs to you! Deb ( Beach Farmgirl )

Sea Dreamin’

Here we are looking all magazine-y!

The sea lives in every one of us ~ Wyland

Dear sisters,

Why do I feel as if its been forever since we’ve been to the beach together? That’s just not right! I AM the BEACH Farmgirl after all! Truth be told, we haven’t been able to access our Lil’ ole beach since sometime in January and before that it was too darned cold! To quote our daughter, ” the beach is for summer “. I get it. However, weather permitting ( and drivable roads) we traditionally kick off a new season at the beach by celebrating Easter with our dear friends and family on the shorelines. We made it! Continue reading

  1. I feel like we just had a very nice visit, thx! Love seeing your little piece of heaven.

  2. CJ Armstrong says:

So charming, Deb! Wish I could visit you at your cottage, walk the beach and get some sand between my toes!
    Happy April to you!
    CJ

  3. Sheena says:

I loved Sea Dreaming Tour!!! Wonderful read with lovely pictures. Thank you so much for sharing! ~ Sheena

  4. Linda Baker says:

Enjoyed the vicarious seaside visit and to your cottage! I love it when you share this place with us! I hope you will share the other rooms with us next time. HAPPY SPRING!

  5. I loved going to your beach house with you. I love how colorful your kitchen is. You’ve really captured “beach cottage style.”
We trek every year to the Oregon coast. I grew up in Hawaii and long to smell salt water. Even though I’m actually not far from the Puget Sound, seeing ocean is so much better. Dying for our beach trip and enjoying some fresh Dungeness crab….
    Enjoy your precious place.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Syliva!
OOh… Dungeness Crab.. YUM! Growing up in Hawaii must have been amazing. I’ve been twice and each time I cried when I left. It truly is paradise.
      Enjoy that crab! xo Deb

  6. gretchen goodwin says:

So nice to follow you to the beach, what a treat. I feel you are a long lost friend I am so happy to see each time you post. I am in the southern Nevada desert and I have to say I do envy you where you are. Be well, and thank you for your posts.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi there Gretchen!
You and I are Nevada girls! I’m from Reno, NV. I so miss my high desert roots, but I’ve fallen in love with the shore and New England too! So glad you enjoy my posts. Thank you for reading! xo Deb

  7. Oh Deb, I just love your little beach cottage. It is so darling. That bottom half of the Hoosier Cabinet is awesome. My mom has one just like that in her kitchen and she is always threatening to throw it out but I love it. The enamelware top is fantastic for rolling out biscuit dough! 🙂

Are there people that live there year-round or would it be impossible during the winter months? It is such a beautiful beach – so different than the beaches I’m used to. I love the “wildness” about it. It’s just gorgeous. Can’t wait for more beach posts from the summer!

Hugs – Dori, the Ranch Farmgirl – P.S. Do you have a hopeful plant date for your flower gardens?

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Howdy Ranch Farmgirl!
There are a handful of residents that live there year round. Some of them had to make other living arrangements for January and February this year, and others toughed it out. It’s really a three season place and while many of us dream of being year round residents, it’s just not practical with our winters but those hardy souls who do it, love it! My hopeful planting date is Mid May! We are supposed to get into the 50’s and low 60’s next week! If it stays that way the soil will be warm enough for planting! How about you? xo Deb

  8. Donna says:

Love reading your stories.I don’t get to the sea much now, but oh how I miss it and the sound of the water.I enjoy ever bit you write.Thank you
    Donna Shaw

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Donna,
Well, thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed the visit to the beach! There’s more on the way 🙂
      xo Deb

  9. Judy Mac says:

Thank you for sharing your cottage. I know just the feelings you are writing about. My hubby and I own a cabin on a Maine lake. We are still waiting for our first trip in. The snow is still too deep to drive in on the road and the while here is still ice on the lake, i don’t trust its strength this time of year. Hopefully, just another few weeks and we’ll be able to check er’ out. In the mean time your tour was just what the doctor ordered…got me dreamin’ about summertime.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Judy,
It’s not easy to ” wait out the weather” when the pull of a summer home is calling is it? You’re almost there! Cheers to a wonderful summer for all of us!
      xo Deb

  10. Nanette Boots says:

Thank you for sharing your beachy cottage. How wonderful to own a piece of heaven. I am a “water girl” at heart which is challenging living in land locked North Dakota. I like to think we have a bit of heaven too in ND, it just looks a little different. When I saw the debris photos I did wonder who had the job of cleaning that up. Bonfires are the next best thing to a beach walk. I hope you have a wonderful summer season at the cottage. Oh, and I so love your posts, especially the beach ones.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Nanette,
My heart beats for the real deal sort of farm land too! Glad to have you along on my beachy cottage tour! We’ll go again. Promise!
      xo Deb

  11. Karen Dixon says:

Thank you the visit…we’ll see you at the cottage in September!! Happy Springtime.
    Love you all,
    Nan

  12. Pam DeMarrais says:

Hey Deb! I love your charming cottage by the sea. How exciting it is that all of those magazine readers will get a taste of beach living!
I won’t probably get back to Boston and the South Shore this year, but I am heading east to Charleston, SC in a few weeks! The ocean calls!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Pam! I was hoping to hear from you! I’ve always wanted to visit Charleston, SC.. I used to work with a gal who grew up there and she loved it. I bet your day lilies are coming up by now and looking good!
      xo Deb

  13. WendyLynn says:

Gorgeous article & photos! Thank you SO much for sharing!

  14. Hi Deb,
Thanks for the peek inside your adorable beach home. I have a “Girl Genius” I’d love to introduce to you! Is there an email address where I can contact you directly?
    Thanks and happy spring!

  15. Denise Ross says:

Love your seaside Home Deb and the beach scenes. I live at the seaside year round and your scene is like mine. Thanks for sharing 🙂
