What the Heck is a Slow Flower?

119-001

Dandelion House Cut Flowers

Dear Sisters,

Happy Summer! And, while we’re spreading joy around, Happy American Flowers Week, too! Yes! Flowers have their own week now. I couldn’t be happier about that. I hope your farms and gardens are off to a good start this season and you’re digging into this lush and colorful time of year. As you know, Summer is my favorite time of year to be ” in the flowers” or, “at the beach”. Today, we’re talking flowers, slow flowers to be exact. Just what the heck is a ‘slow flower’ anyway? Continue reading

  1. Hi Debbie, thank you for writing such a fantastic piece about your personal relationship with local and seasonal flowers — and for inspiring your readers to join the life of local flowers! American Flowers Week is a young endeavor (we’re only in Year 2) but I’m so encouraged by the way this little campaign is raising awareness among consumers and along all channels of the floral industry. We are so fortunate to have flowers that we grow ourselves in our lives! Thank YOU! Debra

  2. Krista says:

I love the smell of fresh flowers! They always smell so pretty and elegant. My dad bought me a rose bush for Mother’s Day and the roses smell absolutely divine. I have always been a fan of using my own flowers simply because of convenience and price but now knowing some more background I will be happy to continue using my own flowers and other locally grown flowers. Thank you for sharing the coloring contest picture. It will be fun to print that out and color.

  3. Dori Troutman says:

Deb, I just loved this blog post! I am so mesmerized by the whole slow flower movement. And our flower cart on your blog post?!!! Oh how we love that crazy thing! Now if our “slow” flowers would just get to blooming we could be in business again. It sure has been a tough spring on the flowers.

Big hugs to you, dear friend.

    – Dori –

  4. Vivian Monroe says:

Deb your flowers and arrangements are always beautiful and Farm Girl Fresh. Love it, and love we have a FLowers week. Love the print to color cant wait to print it out and color in to put in my Garden area. Thanks for sharing and as always be blessed, and Happy 4th. 🙂 Neta

  5. Donna Kozak says:

Hi, Deb – Love your beautiful bouquets…I’m going out to my garden right now and picking a wonderfully smelling bunch of flowers – the weather up here in western Canada has been perfect for most of our backyard gardens…and there is nothing lovelier than a bouquet right from our garden !

  6. Joan says:

Hi Deb, Love your beautiful bouquets! Next year I am going to do my best to get some cutting flowers in my flower gardens – they are all wild flowers – mostly Holly Hocks and Queen Anne’s lace so some beautiful colors will be nice to have. You always have some of the finest. I noticed a stem with little pumpkins, are they real? Again thanks for sharing your lovlies.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Joan,
Great to hear from you! I adore Holly Hocks and Queen Anne’s Lace. The little pumpkins you see are indeed, real. They are called ” Pumpkin on a Stick” or Ornamental Eggplant. I grew them the first year I started my flower farm and fell in love with them. Thanks so much for the note… I hope your summer is going swimmingly! xo Deb

Tart and Tasty Raspberry Rhubarb Crisp

2016-05-030

Dear sisters,

Where did the month of May go? Spring is like that isn’t it? We wait and wait for the weather to turn warm and all of a sudden it’s Memorial Day. If you’re like me ( and every other American ) you are looking forward to a long weekend of R and R with some time set aside for remembering loved ones who have left this earthy world and those who have served and continue to serve our country so we can live free. No doubt you’ll be firing up the grill and dishing up some of your favorite cook-out side dishes and desserts too. I just happen to have some freshly harvested rhubarb I need to use up. Today I’m sharing my Raspberry Rhubarb Crisp recipe. It’s easy, tarty and tasty! Come on in for a bite.

  1. Krista says:

Rhubarb is one of my favorites! I enjoy eating it fresh and plain. Must be the tartness that draws me in. I personally haven’t made anything with rhubarb, but many of my family members have made pies, crisps, and cakes using rhubarb. This year I would like to attempt and make something using rhubarb. Not sure what yet. I have many memories of being at my grandparents house and picking rhubarb from their garden. We would also play with the large leaves. Sometimes even turning them into hats! Thanks for sharing your recipe. I will have to give it a try.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Krista! Rhubarb is definitely an old fashioned kind of plant that stirs all kinds of delicious memories. Love the hat idea! I can picture it. xo Deb

  2. Tracy says:

I cook it down with a little sugar, like applesauce, and use it as a topping for pound cake, ice cream, and pancakes.

  3. Vivian Monroe says:

Hi Deb, I love love love Rhubarb, I havent tried to grow any but I just may now. I love making Rhubarb/Strawberry pie, and crisps. Cant wait to try yours. Thanks for sharing. I got my Apron and I love it. I posted a pic of me wearing it on Fluffy Feathers FB page, I tried to find you on FB to post a pic but couldnt find ya. Anyway I have some babies ordered and they will be here June 6th so I will have chickens again. So apron was just in time. Be Blessed, have a safe wonderful fun filled weekend. 🙂 Neta

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi dear Neta! I’ll have to go hunt you down in your Fluffy Layers Apron… so happy you are enjoying it:) Blessings and hugs!
      Deb

  4. Mary Rauch says:

I think it is important to add a little pinch of SALT to every rhubarb recipe. It adds a major flavor to the all over result. … don’t know why.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Mary!
I’ll keep that in mind next time I cook with Rhubarb. I wonder if it brings out the tartness or calms it down? Thanks for the tip! Deb

  5. Denise Ross says:

Yummy looking crisp Deb. Thanks so much for sharing. I’m going to have a go at this and have a go at growing it too. Have a glorious weekend Deb.

  6. Susan says:

Mom always made Rhubarb cream pie and crisps. I started growing Rhubarb a few years ago and had one early picking this year. It seems like it takes a Long time to produce. I love to cook mine with various fruits like strawberries, blueberries, pears, apples or peaches all together which naturally sweetens it then since I have sugar issues I use a little Stevia. If it needs a little more. Enjoy it on toast or mixed with cottage cheese.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

I agree. I think it was the third year before we were able to harvest as well. I’m still kicking myself for not planting more! Rhubarb Cream Pie is something I haven’t tried. Thanks for sharing, Susan!
      xo Deb

The Beach Farmgirl Goes To Work ( PLUS our Egg Apron Winner)

12974396_1117904124899411_3469930260486112737_nDear Sisters,

After 16 years of being a professional domestic engineer, (homemaker) I’ve joined the outside work force once again and I am loving it! At first, I didn’t like the idea very much mostly because it marks the end of a very special chapter in my life. Our youngest turned 18 this year and suddenly this stay at home mom was out of a job. I’ll admit there have been more than a few tears during this transition, but the joy of seeing our young adult children finding their way in the world and meeting their adult responsibilities helps to ease the sadness I was feeling. I just bet some of my farmgirl pals can relate. While we don’t have an empty nest yet, they certainly don’t need mamma like they used to! Have you guessed what I’m doing for work yet? Come on in and see if you’re right! Also, be sure to stay with me till the bottom of this post. I’m announcing our winner of the Fluffy Layers Egg Collecting Apron Giveaway! Continue reading

  1. Krista says:

Congratulations on the new job! I’m so glad your are enjoying every moment of it and learning many new things along the way. Your moss purses are super adorable. I would love one of those for my patio table. Also, congrats to Vivian for winning the super cute apron.

  2. Kathy says:

Congratulations on your new position and also to Vivian! You will be fantastic at designing and working with all the plants and fun statues, pots, baskets, etc.

  3. Junebug says:

Sounds like the perfect job for you!! That is if you want to call it a job??? How about playing with plants away from home and getting paid for it. Enjoy this new time of your journey!!

  4. Diane Van Horn says:

You fit in very nicely in your new job! If you are doing what you love, it doesn’t seem like work. I also started part time at a greenhouse. The first two weeks were transplanting the little seedlings into bigger pots. I have never transplanted so many plants. I must have done about 500 tomatoes and 1000 herbs! I am working for trade. I went in to see about bulk garden soil and ended up getting a job! I have to start my gardens all over since we bought our little homestead just last November so I “need” a lot of garden supplies. I will probably end up spending more than I make!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Oh, the danger of spending my entire paycheck, is REAL! It gets harder to control myself as the season progresses and more goodies come in to the nursery! Trying a new Floribunda Rose this year in a pretty coral peach color. I’ll keep ya posted! Enjoy your new job! xo Deb

  5. bonnie ellis says:

That new job is just fabulous for you! I wish I was 54 again ( I’ll be 74) in July. I love your posts and your beautiful pictures. Don’t get too busy that you stop them. Have fun!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Bonnie,
It does seem to be a good fit for me right now. I promise I won’t get too busy to write. You’re sweet. I’d miss everyone too much!
      xo Deb

  6. Laura R. says:

Congrats, Deb! I can so relate to all of this, as a year ago, at 55, I started a new part-time job at a health food store. I spent all of my 8 hour shifts standing, and looked immediately for supportive shoes. Also, I spend most of my paycheck at the store, lol. It was a triumph of working out of my comfort zone on many levels, and so healthy for me on many more. Just as your job is, following your passions and unleashing your creativity ! And it is good to be out in the world and meeting new people all the time 🙂

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Thanks Laura! Congrats to you too. Good for you for getting out there and finding work that not only makes you feel better, but you get to help other people do the same. So many rewards in that.
Keep up the good work. 🙂
      xo Deb

  7. Marge Hofknecht says:

The photos you posted look “yummy” if you know what I mean. Some of them would make great faded background scrapbook pages! At least, to me they would. It is a pleasant feeling to be working at what you love doing and getting paid for it. I’m an origami instructor and back when I lived in Philadelphia I was paid to teach origami at a couple of assisted living facilities. I so looked forward to it. Besides the pay which was nice the older people there were so interesting. Many loved to reminisce and I enjoyed their stories. Some hesitated to try folding something and would rather just sit and watch BUT with encouragement and hands-on assistance they eventually sat back in their wheelchairs happy and proud holding their finished model in their arthritic hands. I’m happy for you that you are able to “work” at what you love. It is so satisfying, I know. Have a blessed day and thank you for all the lovely photos. May the garden center by overrun with — customers!

  8. Vivian Monroe says:

Deb, I am sooo excited about winning the apron. Thank you and Tara from Fluffy Layers for the surprise. And what a nice surprise since tomorrow is my big 60 birthday. My sweetie and I and our two 4 legged babies are on a trip rving across the country pretty much. We have been in 10 states in 6 days and I even met some of the “Sisters on the Fly girls” in Shreveport while at home visiting my grandbaby for his 2nd birthday. Cute Glampers they were. Now we are staying put for 4 nites in beautiful Minnesota, but it is a little cool here. Going touring some Amish farms tomorrow as I love their work ethics and how beautiful some of their crafts are. Thanks again and congrats on your new job, and yes you probably will NOT make it home with your paycheck. 🙂 Be Blessed. Neta

  9. Marilyn says:

Good luck with your job. The flowers look so beautiful.Enjoy!
    Marilyn

  10. Joan says:

Congratulations Vivian!!! And to you too, Deb!!! I am the lucky one though, you there and my friend Lisa, here, are both super gardeners and you both are ’emptyish nesters’ and both are now working at garden centers — I am so happy for both of you and thanks for sharing your super pictures, my fingers are itching to get at the gardening but we received a foot of snow today – with a bit more to come, so I will be waiting till around Memorial Day to do most of my prettying up outside but thanks for the great ideas. God bless.

  11. Pam DeMarrais says:

Congratulations on your newest job! I love the garden boxes that you designed the arrangements for! You are in your element. Enjoy this new chapter of your life.

  24. Vickie Farris says:

I am a loving and affectionate “Mother Hen” of a daughter who raises a small flock of chickens. She’s so cute with them and I wanted to share some of her feelings regarding her little hen family:

“Each morning as the ladies are milling and pecking, I love the feeling I get when I open the back door and they come dashing in my direction cackling and clucking in unison.
I’m flattered that they’re happy to see me even though I know they’re really just anxious to dig in to their feed.
    They’re happy – I’m happy — and it’s a great start to each day.
I love the feeling I get when I find the pretty pastel treasures that my little ladies leave me, expecting nothing in return.
I love letting them out of the run, free to roam, while I do my gardening or simply sit and enjoy the sunshine.
I love that each and every one of our chickens have their own unique personalities; sweet and spunky, feisty and friendly and a little bit goofy at times.
They’re amazingly intelligent, social and even cuddly little beings; God’s beautiful creatures. They’ve taught me and my family so much. They make me smile and I LOVE THEM DEARLY.”

  25. Michelle says:

My daughter and I collect cute aprons. Since she collects eggs for me every morning, this one would go into her collection. What fun!

  26. Sunnie says:

They are so cute, I like the patterns and the functionality of them!

  27. Suzanne Francke says:

Love the idea. Don’t have chickens now but i have a friend who raises angora rabbits for her fiber farm in NY. she has ducks and chickens in the barn. She would love this.

  28. Connie Howard says:

What a brilliant design ! Very clever ! If my name were picked, the apron would be loved and used daily on my little ( 6 Australorps ) hobby farm .

  29. love the idea….I have had many “scrambled” pockets….

  30. love the idea…have had many scrambled pockets

  31. Donna Kozak, Langley BC Canada says:

Just love the beautiful and useful aprons – my older girls have been laying all winter (their coop has a nice timed heat lamp!!)..and my new ‘fluffy layers’ – lavender orpingtons will be laying soon so I have to get one of those lovely aprons – putting 4 or 5 eggs in my pockets is NOT a good idea !

  32. Krista says:

These aprons are a great idea. You can collect your eggs and bring them in without a chance of dropping them or breaking them against each other. Her fabrics are absolutely perfect for egg collecting. My favorite one is the very first one with black and bright colors! Happy Spring and Happy Easter!

    Too too cute!!

  46. Janeen says:

Such a cute and practical idea. It reminds me of aprons used in the maternity ward of a hospital in case they have to evacuate the babies.

  47. Kathy k says:

Love your aprons! It would make collecting eggs from our 8 chickens much easier!!!

  48. Randi Cook says:

I love these aprons. I’m always putting the eggs in my jacket pockets. I got 7 girls that are finally getting back to laying after the winter and spring molt.

Beach Fever

12742445_1083480701675087_7375402163708861438_n-002

Dear sisters,

Have you had enough of winter or are you still in hibernation mode? I love winter. I really do.  I’ve learned to sink into it and relish the quiet and the cold. But come this time of year my biological beach clock starts ticking letting me know that spring is just a few short weeks away and not only will it be time to set my flower farm plans in motion, but our annual ritual of returning to the beach will begin again too. BEACH FEVER is setting in and it’s contagious! Continue reading

  1. Debbie says:

Oh the beach the beach! What beautiful pictures and cottage! The lobster pot is calling out an invitation to me for dinner…. I can hear it so clearly!
Spring fever has me also! I am planting many of my green babies this weekend. I cannot wait! Happy “almost spring”!

  2. Dori Troutman says:

Oh Deb…. this just makes me want to visit your little cottage on the shore more than ever!!!! That little place is so darling. 🙂 Glad you’ve had a more mile winter – I know last year was a doozy!

    Hugs,

    – Dori –

  3. Krista says:

Oh how I am missing the beach right now! I am super ecstatic to have warm weather rolling in soon. I wish I was sitting on your cozy sun porch right now with the warmth of the sun and a glass of lemonade. Your cottage is adorable. I bet it’s a fun place to stay in the spring and summer. Enjoy your delicious lobster dinners and beautiful sunsets this coming season. I’m just a tad bit jealous!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

I promise to keep the beach life coming your way. How’s that sound, Krista? Wishing you some time near the shore this year!

  4. Ann says:

I grew up near the ocean myself and even though I live in northernmost NH nowadays, I swear I have salt water in my veins. This time of year I start craving time at our ocean place in York Beach, Maine, which has been in our family since it was first built in 1905. Currently I co-own it with 10 family members. I’m always the first one lucky enough to spend time there and have already booked my first trip for April!. Can’t wait! I can already smell the salt air on the wind (in my imagination, of course.)

  5. Victoria Hall says:

That Max just melts my heat!!!

  6. Victoria Hall says:

Ooopps!!! I mean’t HEART!!!! My HEART!!!! (cringe).

  7. Cindy McCormick says:

Hi! My name is Cindy & I live in California’s Central Valley, lots of farming. I get beach fever pretty consistently & my hubby and I are spending this weekend in Avila Ca. It’s our favorite place. Whenever my heart or soul needs a boost we come here. Thank goodness for the beach and ocean!

  8. Cindy says:

Wow! Enjoy your life to the fullest every day love the ocean! I miss it hear on my farm in Idaho but!! Farm life is the best!!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Cindy,
I can only dream of actual farm-life, but I come close in my backyard flower farm!;) Thanks for the note! Deb

  9. Tina Mandeville says:

    Hi, Debbie!

Love your blog and especially this post as my heart beats best by the sea! I am a fellow New Englander who lives 2 hours inland from the ocean but Cape Cod is our second home. If it were the last place on earth, that would be fine by me! My Dad was a Contractor and growing up, I spent summers on Cape with my family as he built many places down there. In fact, my first steps were taken at Cape Cod….maybe that explains it! Five plus decades later, it is a place that remains close to my heart and that of my own family (my Husband and our 4 kids!). We continue to spend lots of time there….in fact, we were there just last weekend! I can tell by your blog that when people speak the same language, words aren’t necessary! Kindred spirit and hearts! And here is another wonderful tidbit….in his college years, my Husband worked the wilderness trails of Idaho during the summers. Many years back, I was in a bookstore and came across MaryJane’s magazine when it first began publication. I bought it and brought it home and showed my Husband. “Look at this magazine! This woman did the same work you did in Idaho…do you know her?!” Guess what! He did! He was so excited! He since has been in touch with MaryJane and they have been able to revisit memories of their work/experiences they had in Idaho and most especially, the people they worked for and with! Some of whom remain endeared to them both! We both love getting her magazine now. As for me, I don’t milk cows or anything but she indeed brings out and celebrates the farmgirl in all of us! We live in a beautiful rural area of MA where I can practice the preach in many ways nonetheless and I love it! Thanks for doing your part as well….it’s all about the joy!

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Tina!
What a nice note. Thank you! I love all the little connections too. MaryJane has a knack for bringing like-minded folks together! My husbands parents were teachers and like you, he spent his entire childhood summers at the beach. Not many families can afford to just check out like that any more for weeks on end. It’s truly one of the best gifts they gave their children and one he’s never been ungrateful for. We appreciate it every day. It’s all about the joy!

There's a Garden in There Somewhere (A Garden of Love )

129-002 edit

Happy Valentines’ Day from the Beach Farmgirl.

Dear sisters,

Happy Valentines Day! The ” love “ holiday isn’t just for googly-eyed couples. It’s for everyone, ALL AGES, every moment of the day if you are willing to keep your heart open. Come on in for some seeds of happiness you can sow in your garden of love. Continue reading

  1. Krista says:

This was very beautiful. I like how you refer to growing our love as like growing our flowers in the garden. It’s true that we need to put work into our love. Love won’t continue to grow without the proper nourishment just like flowers! This is a great reminder, especially since love is on all our minds with Valentines Day this weekend!

  2. mari1017 says:

What a beautiful post for Valentine’s Day! Love your blog! Probably because I lived by the sea most of my life. I want to try some of those flowers this coming Spring! Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend – and stay warm! mari

  1. Krista says:

This was very beautiful. I like how you refer to growing our love as like growing our flowers in the garden. It’s true that we need to put work into our love. Love won’t continue to grow without the proper nourishment just like flowers! This is a great reminder, especially since love is on all our minds with Valentines Day this weekend!

portrait-final-1500x15001

Dear Sisters,
Have you noticed how many adult coloring books have appeared in the marketplace lately? Sarah Rosedahl is the artist and self-published author of the Difficult Chickens Coloring Book and she’s giving away a copy to one of you! Come on in and meet Sarah, and enter the giveaway!

Cute sloggers and I bet the coloring book is pretty neat too!

  2. CJ Armstrong says:

I’m loving coloring books right now! I go between three different ones, but none of them have chickens! I love the look of that book . . . the sloggers are cute too! I’ll have to check them out!
Thanks for sharing your blog and thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
    Hugs to you!
    CJ

  3. Carol says:

Chickens are the best. What fun it would be to have a coloring book full of them!

  4. Charlene says:

    Deb,
I absolutely love coloring. For me, as a relaxing activity, it’s right up there with spinning. What could be more fun than coloring chickens? Along with llamas, goats and sheep (thus the wool for spinning), we have 12 chickens including 2 roosters. Yes, at times they can be “difficult” as they have minds of their own. But don’t we all? Their entertaining antics and contribution to farm life, however, make up for whatever nusances crop up. We have one very savy chicken (Buffy) who has chosen to live away from the coop and hangs out with all the other anmals in the barn. She’s a great little layer although we have to hunt for her eggs. Just when we think we know where they will be, she finds a new place for them. You tell me who’s really running the show!

Thanks so much for all your Farmgirl posts. I do look forward to them.
I would love to win Sarah’s “Difficult Chickens” coloring book.

    Warm regards,
    Charlene

  5. Bonnie ellis says:

As a child, we did not always obtain our coloring books from the store. My older brother showed me how to trace pictures with a black sheet of paper over something i wanted to copy, held up to the glass of a window and traced in.
I could not wait until i was old enough to own my own set of colored “pencils” as opposed to the box of crayons. Remembering now, how the grown-up feeling when someone presented me with my own set of coloring pencils.
And, to think of all the varieties that are offered today!
Happy de-stressing to all Farmgirls who find coloring peaceful!
    Carol

I looked at the pages and wow! I got so many ideas: frame them for a wall display, or run the pages to fabric and use fabric markers to create quilt blocks, etc.

Deb, I loved your article on coloring. I started coloring before it became such a fad. With my husband being in poor health, I color to relieve my stress and worry. It is my time for ME to relax. I have bought several coloring books from Amazon which are great. I also have gotten my three sisters into coloring and they love it. They enjoy coloring in the evening while watching TV. Yes, it is a wonderful way to get away from the computers and technology. For me it is cheap and fun therapy. Coloring really renews your energy level. Thank you so much for all your wonderful blogs. Peggy

  37. Sharon Elaine says:

My kitchen is totally decorated with chickens but no REAL ones yet. Growing up we had chickens and I’ve always loved them. Must have the chicken Sloggers and coloring book. Thanks.

  38. Liz Olson says:

Liz here! So what exactly does a difficult chicken do to earn the title of difficult chicken? Do they break into the garden and eat the red ripe tomatoes? Do they chase the children and the cats around the yard? Do they escape and head to the neighbors house running the risk of being greeted by their difficult dog? Do they refuse to lay eggs for several days at a time? If so, I own several difficult chickens and wouldn’t have them any other way!

  39. Cathy R says:

TOO FUN! Me too! I spent a lot of time coloring when I was young. Just got an adult coloring book in the fall but broke my right wrist shortly afterwards and it’s not a happy camper with fun things like coloring right now! AND I love chickens and love the designs!
Thanks for the giveaway. Blessings to all!

  40. Judy says:

    I Love it!!!! 🙂

  41. Katrina says:

Congratulations on your recent publish and your Slogger designs. Such a wonderful thing to see people be successful.

  42. Laura R. says:

I have just recently purchased my first adult coloring book, Enchanted Forest and look forward to ‘playing’ with it. My 94 year old mom started the craze in our family as her other 2 daughters bought her first adult coloring book. It looked like so much fun, I had to give it a try. I love the Chickens, A to Z !

  43. SusanK says:

  46. donna says:

I am a massage therapist and the coloring book is how we learned the muscle groups. It reinforced in our brain all the connections. A relaxing and fun way to learn. The coloring books are beautiful.

  47. Kristy says:

My son is dating a woman with a chicken themed kitchen. I got her some great magnets from a site MaryJane recommended called Chicken Art last December. Now she will have a birthday and I would like to give her a coloring book of Difficult Chickens. Both Laura and her daughter love coloring.

All botanical prints featured in this post are courtesy of The Graphics Fairy Blog http://thegraphicsfairy.com/category/botanicals/ Check it out for FREE printables!

Dear sisters,

A fresh NEW YEAR is laid out before us perfect as a freshly plowed field waiting for the first planting. I can’t think of anything more symbolic for ringing in the new year than celebrating the world of things that grow. The very essence of life pulsates through every living, growing thing. Like plants, we are programmed to do certain things, at certain times, and in the right conditions we flourish and inspire. What kinds of seeds will you sow in 2016? Creative seeds I hope! I just happen to have a fun decorating idea to share sure to help you welcome in the new year. If you’re in the mood to re-do a wall or two you’ll love how easy and fun it is to create beautiful wall art with antique botanical prints you can print from home. Come see!

  1. Thanks for sharing such beautiful pictures. You made my day. I approach 2016 without our son. 2015 was a year of suffering for him and us. He’s out of pain now, so I’m looking for beauty, peace and a way of helping others. My garden is so important this year. Want to see a lot of flowers and growing some awesome vegetables we grew last year but the garden understandably was ignored. Will be growing some plants for natural dyeing. Can hardly wait until spring. Love seeing your flowers.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Sylvia,
I am so sorry for your loss. There is no doubt in my mind you will find healing among the flowers and in your giving back activities.I’m curious to see what you grow for natural dying. Fabric and yarn perhaps? God Bless you and your family in 2016 and beyond. Sending farmgirl hugs.
      Deb

  2. Dori Troutman says:

Oh Deb these are so gorgeous!!! It is amazing the free art we can find online (kind of like Google Patents) that you can do so many awesome things with. These are positively stunning! I’m thinking about all the possibilities!

Happy New Year to you dear friend. Thankful I have you to count among my many things to be thankful for.

    Hugs,

    – Dori –

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Dori,

It IS amazing how much FREE art is available online. One more positive creative change we can all enjoy because of the world wide web. I bet you’ll find place for a few of these images too cuz you are a flower farmgirl too! 😉 Big hugs!
      Love,
      Deb

  3. Adrienne says:

How beautiful and creative! I did the same thing years ago by creating the same small framed designs in needlepoint. Then I gave them away. Looks like it’s time to try your method and I’ve got a few blank areas to fill.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Adrienne,
I’m impressed not only with your needlepoint skills but that you actually parted with your work. I get so attached to things I make and have a hard time letting go sometimes. I need to work on that. Growing flowers has taught me a lot about that. I hope you find just what you’re looking for and fill your spaces with something inspiring and pretty to look at.
Wishing you all good things in 2016 and beyond!
      Love, Deb

  4. Joan says:

Your bathroom is beautiful!!! what a fun project. Thanks for the printables address!! it will be great fun using these. I have a set of shelves that remind me of something that would stand against an old chimney – 6′ tall about 12″s wide – I cover the inside back with different papers according to whatever I am feeling – well can’t ya just see it now – Spring — botanicals – oh yeah this will be a good thing. Thanks for bringing on an idea for me. God bless.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Joan,
Now that sounds like a great idea! I CAN see it. Spring Botanical backgrounds… Love it!
Best for a wonderful and creative 2016!
      Love, Deb

  5. Marilyn Collins says:

Thanks for the lovely photos. What a treat!
    Marilyn

  6. Sharon Elaine says:

Love The Graphics Fairy blog and what you have done with the prints. Creative decorating doesn’t have to be expensive. I do nature inspired – a large pine cone in a vase, framed preserved fall leaves and baskets of nests, feathers and branches. I cut a white birch log in half, drilled out holes for votive candles. My favorite accessories are inexpensive and homemade. My words for 2016 are reveal and recreate. Health and happiness to all farmgirls at heart.

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Hi Sharon,
You are so right. My favorite kind of decorating has three components. Frugal, natural, and personal. I always seem to like the end results much better when I stick to my rule.
Ooh, your words for 2016 sound mysterious and fun! You must be teasing out some great ideas this year! Best in all your new endeavors.
      Love, Deb

  7. Vivian Monroe says:

BEEEUUUTIFUL!. I love it. I found these prints at some estate sales, and found out they have one for each month. My goal is to collect all 12. I have been leaving them in the old frames they came in (only have two) but one day will have my walls filled with these old botanical prints. cant wait. THanks for stirring me up again to search out the 10 I still need. 🙂 As always love your blog, keep inspiring, keep writing, and I love your two words. I think my two words will be Nourish, Believe. Have a BLessed healthy new year. Neta (oh the prints I will send on your email, I just cant figure out how to post pics here. )

    • Deb Bosworth says:

Hi Neta! Always great to hear from you. I got your prints in my inbox. They are truly beautiful. That’s exciting that you are still on the hunt for 10 more. I hope you find all of them. What fun it will be tracking them down. I’ll keep a look-out too! Thanks for the kind words my dear. Speaking of words. I LOVE both words you chose for 2016! Blessings,
      Deb

  8. Susana says:

Love the art work… My mother used to get these booklets with poems and the artwork which was similar.very inspiring…. But I font have much space in my bathroom. I got butterflies all over my house. Wish I knew how to aff them here…I’d Snow you. Love the blog!Susana

A Rootin, Tootin, Rustic Christmas

Christmas 2015 2015-12-13 020

Dear Sisters,

Maybe it’s the flower farmer in me, but I just couldn’t buy into all the over the top glitz and glam of the holiday season this year. But that doesn’t mean I’m not feeling festive or like celebrating. No sirree. My heart was yearning for a more down to earth holiday vibe with a farmgirl kick so my handsome Yankee and I took to the woods where we found the beginnings of our rootin, tootin, RUSTIC Christmas! Continue reading

  1. Debbie says:

  5. Barb P says:

    Lovely! Merry Christmas!

  6. CJ Armstrong says:

Love your decorating! I have tons of decorations out on display, but I have a lot more still in the shed. I’m a sucker for Christmas. I don’t have a tree up this year but there’s plenty of all other kinds of things. We do artificial because our climate is so dry that a real one dries out soooooo quickly. I love the evergreen aromas too, but satisfy that with my Yankee Candle candles, either Holiday Bayberry, Christmas Wreath or Balsam & Cedar.
Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas!
    CJ

  7. Sandi says:

Merry Christmas Deb! You two look very sweet in your post! Have a wonderful holiday! xoxoxox Sandi from the Cape

  8. Vivian Monroe says:

Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year to you and your handsome yankee and children and your mom. 🙂 Neta

  10. Merry Christmas, Deb! Love your rustic decorations. The rooster is especially adorable! Hope you have a wonderful Holiday season! Farmgirl Hugs from Connecticut! ~Nicole (Suburban Farmgirl)

Merry Christmas, Nicole! I couldn’t resist the rooster! 😉 Thinking of you all this holiday season and wishing you many blessings in 2016…
      Hugs, Deb

  11. Linda Hickman says:

    Merry Christmas, Deb
Thank you for the beautiful Autumn notecards. You even wrapped them pretty. It was fun to win something from you!
    PS – I also married a handsome Yankee. 🙂

    • Deb Bosworth says:

      Deb

  12. Brenda Towslet says:

Love your woodsy Christmas decor! We just had our big family gathering this pas weekend so we are hopeing for a quiet week here. Merry Christmas Deb!

  13. Denise Ross says:

Merry Christmas, Deb. Your tree and ornaments look fabulous together. I just had to say, I love your hair in these pics. Looks absolutely fabulous on you. The photo of you and your Yankee husband is just beautiful. I hope you’ve framed it and it’s proudly displayed.
I toned my decorations down this year and concentrated on living out the spirit of Christmas instead. I was a lot more relaxed and enjoyed the time together with my family a lot more by stepping back and giving up the illusion of the perfect Christmas. I ended up with a perfect day by just relaxing and enjoying time with my family and creating memories instead. I hope your Christmas was just as wonderful and full of memory keeping moments. Hugs from down under.
