Dear Sisters, Boy has it been cold, wet and white here on the shorelines. The Farmers Almanac predicted a stormy, bitter cold winter for the northeast this year and they were spot on! I think it’s snowed 4 times in the last two weeks alone with temps in the single digits! I know many of you have had the same treatment and worse in some places. Despite the harsh weather I actually like certain parts of winter. I enjoy having my ” chickens ” close to the nest where I can love em up good with healthy, heart warming meals, snugly blankets at the ready for family movie nights and yummy homemade sweets. In some ways, I wish I could freeze winter right now just to make these moments last a little longer. Instead, I’m beginning to feel that old familiar tug at my heartstrings pulling me back to the beach I love so dear. Where cherished memories rest and new adventures await on the not so distant horizon. I think I feel a summer romance coming on. A Beachgirl Romance! It’s a lot like Farmgirl Romance only beachy-er. Follow me! I’ll show ya what I mean! Flip flops are optional!
Even though we live less than an hour away from our tiny cottage by the sea, it might as well be 3000 miles away in the winter time.
This my friends, is what we call ” longing season ” at our house. It’s akin to farm animals being ” in season ” only slightly different because we aren’t trying to get pregnant. We just want to fill up on ocean air, feel the warm sand between our toes, taste the salt water on our lips and run our fingers over beach glass that’s been tumbled into smooth, velvety diamonds that glisten when the sun hits them just right.
Oh the anticipation of it all makes my farmgirl heart do the two-step! And that’s just the warmup. Next comes the long list of firsts.
- first walk around the point with Max
- first pot of cottage coffee brewed in the perculator
- first swim
- first cribbage game
- first nap
- first slam of the old screen door
- first falling star
- first fish
- first outside solar shower
- first day on the beach
- first Bocce Ball game
- first walk in the fog
- first happy hour ( me and my beach sister Mary )
- first boat ride
- first sunrise
- first sunset
- first beach roses
Like all great love affairs, the firsts are always the most intense and long remembered. They’re also what keep us coming back for more amore!
Until our next shoreline visit~ Here’s wishing you an affair of the heart wherever you find romance! Beach Blessings and Much Love, Sister Deb # 1199
I loooong for FLIP FLOPS!! I live in South Georgia! We have had snow once and flurries one day! That’s enough of the white stuff for me! I’m planning a trip to the east coast! Just my dear daughter and I! That’s all she wanted for her 13th birthday!! A trip to the beach-“just me and you, mama!” We are so anticipating a warm, sunny weekend! I loved reading your post! I could almost smell the salt sea air!! Thank you!
Hi Kim!
Oh, so glad you enjoyed your trip to the beach! xo Deb
Oh so nice to view as I sit here in 28 degrees and heavy fog – it really is beautiful just in a different way than the beautiful beach. Thanks for sharing – Happy Valentine’s Day!
My pleasure Joan… 🙂
If I EVER get there, could I come and visit your cottage? Would love to walk the beach and feel the surf lapping around me ankles.
Stay warm and safe in your wintry weather!
CJ
Absolutely CJ…I would love showing your around and getting to know you better… 🙂 Thanks so much for the note today! Deb
We’ve had some rain here but not enough to compensate for the drought conditions. However, I was able to get close to the beach to smell the air (too cold to wade). Spring is coming soon and your cottage will be waiting for you.
Hi Adrienne! Glad to hear you’ve had some precipitation. I remember the high desert droughts all to well in Nevada. Soon, you’ll be able to wade in the ocean too! 🙂 Thanks for your note! xo Deb
Loved your post I just read this morning …. As I had another cup of coffee and watched the snow “fly” adding another three inches to our already 22 on the ground :). I do love snow especially when the power stays on and I can stay right here in my little cabin…..I do love the beach, too, and your post just took me there for a few minutes….thank u – have a great day 🙂
Hi Cindy! I agree.. right now our yard is covered in the most beautiful deep, sparkling white snow and it is beautiful. Hard to believe in a short couple of months we’ll be planting and playing at the beach…Glad you enjoyed our early virtual trip to the shore! Thanks for your note! Deb
I am dreaming of some beach days also. Looking out the window at the piles of snow and the snow coming down with a forecast of 3-4 more inches tomorrow it seems so far away. I will dream with you, hope spring comes quickly.
Hey Brenda! yes, lets’ dream together… I hope spring comes quickly too… 🙂 Thanks for checking in! xo Deb
